Amazon has admitted to what we all feared was true.
An Alexa device in a Portland family's home recorded a random conversation and promptly sent it out to someone on the family's contact list.
Danielle, the woman whose conversation the device recorded, immediately reached out to Amazon for an explanation.
A representative for the company told the couple, "our engineers went through your logs, and they saw exactly what you told us, they saw exactly what you said happened, and we’re sorry."
“He apologized like 15 times in a matter of 30 minutes and he said we really appreciate you bringing this to our attention. This is something we need to fix!” Danielle told Huffington Post.
Amazon told CNET.com the eavesdropping occurred after Alexa mistakenly heard the wake word and then mistakenly heard a command to call someone, followed by a third misheard confirmation.
