âEverything old is new againâ is a quote that means that no matter what appears to be fashionable now probably was fashionable at some time in the past. Such is the case with vinyl records. Yes, old timers, vinyl records are currently going through a resurgence!
Nielsen Music reports that LP sales are up 19.2 % in 2018! Thatâs pretty amazing for a format that was essentially declared dead in the early 2000s. There was also a mid-2000s mini resurgence that was considered a fluke. However, a mid-year report by Digital Music News placed LP sales for the first half of 2018 at 7.6 million units!
So whatâs driving this resurgence? According to Digital Music News, itâs millennials who seem to miss holding a tangible product! With CDs being looked upon as âuncool,â and iTunes sales stagnant, vinyl LPâs are no longer considered vintage as sales seem to be soaring! Finally, as odd as it seems, HD Vinyl is set to hit the market sometime before the summer of 2019! Pull those old turntables out again, folks! They may be usable again very soon!
