Over 12 Years Old? Don't Trick Or Treat In This City!

Over the age of 12? DO NOT plan on Trick-or-Treating in Chesapeake, Virginia! The city is warning individuals that’s its laws prohibits kids over the age of 12 from putting on costumes and going door-to-door. Really, it’s true!

The City Code in Chesapeake further states that to do so is a misdemeanor punishable with a fine of $25-$100 and up to six months in jail! Lastly, the code, passed in 1970, says that all trick-or-treating must be finished by 8:00 pm or face a fine of $10-$100 and up to 30 days in jail!  Whoa! Tough city!

According to historians, Halloween wasn’t celebrated much in New England due to strict Protestant traditions, but eventually spread from other states and was commonly celebrated by the 1950s. Very interesting.
