A 48 year old Florida man was pulled over by sheriff’s deputies on the suspicion that he was driving under the influence of alcohol. As Monroe County Sheriff Anthony Lopez got out of his car to approach the driver, Daryl Royal Riedel took off in his pickup truck only to stop a short distance down the road. Riedel proceeded to tell Sheriff Lopez he was scared.
When Sheriff Lopez asked Riedel if he had been drinking, Riedel promptly took out a can of beer and chugged it down right in front of the sheriff! Well, I think the answer was “Yes.” It turns out that Riedel has 3 prior DUI convictions between 2003 and 2010, and a fourth from 2017 pending.
Needless to say, Riedel was arrested and is facing numerous charges including felony DUI, fleeing from a sheriff, driving with a suspended license, and refusing to submit to a breathalyzer test. He is now in jail being held without bond. Do you think the beer chugging thing will be offered as evidence?
