Dax Shepard Talks With Sean Hayes About Being Fired From 'Will & Grace'

Dax Shepard has only been terminated from a job once in his life and, ironically, the Hollywood actor admitted to Will & Grace star and longtime friend Sean Hayes that the ax fell on his 2017 role in the long-running LGBTQ-driven sitcom.

"I was fired from your show, which is my only firing experience of my life," the Parenthood actor told Hayes during the Monday episode (December 17) of the his podcast, Armchair Expert. "I got offered to do a thing on your show last year. I'm fine with it now. It was an interesting feeling to get fired. The only thing I cared about is that you and I were involved. Had it been any other thing with a bunch of strangers, I would have been like, 'Oh, whatever. I was at a table read for 45 minutes and then I got fired. Who gives a sh*?'"

Sheppard said that he was slightly embarrassed because the people at the table read knew that his role was axed from the series. "I think maybe that was the only element that I was like, 'Well, that’s kind of embarrassing. These are people that I know, and then I got canned,'" he reminisced. Meanwhile, Hayes seemed embarrassed himself about the story, saying, "I almost don't remember it — Of course, I remember it, but I almost blocked it out, because it was horrible that it happened… I can't believe they fired you," he said of the termination, which saw Nick Offerman receive the role.

Later on, Shepard even recalled of a 15-minute conversation he had with his agent after the firing. "In the middle of her compliment parade, I go, 'Did I get fired on Will & Grace? And she goes, 'They are going in another direction.' I knew it. Something stunk. You would not just call me to fluff my pillows for 15 minutes."
