Laverne Cox Makes History As First Transgender 'Cosmopolitan' Cover Girl

Laverne Cox continues to be a trailblazer for the LGBTQ community as she graces the February cover of Cosmopolitan South Africa, becoming the first transgender cover girl for the magazine.

"Trans women deserve to be loved out in the open and in the light," the Emmy-winning actress and producer said in a preview of the cover story, which was shared on Monday (January 22). "Let go of fear and live a fun, fearless life. If I can do it, you can do it." Cox's issue also happens to be a Valentine's Day-themed #SayYesToLove edition focused on LGBTQ issues.

In the interview, Cox also spoke a bit about her personal life, particularly the romance department. "As a black transgender woman, I've often been kept a secret by the men I've dated," Cox said when asked about the most romantic thing anyone has ever done for her. "So, when my ex-boyfriend introduced me to his dad, and invited me to spend Hanukkah with him and his family, it was the most special thing ever."
